CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- David beat Goliath on Saturday night as the Charlotte Bobcats finally won a game over the Dallas Mavericks.
The Bobcats were 0-16 against the Mavs, all-time, since they joined the NBA in 2004. But they got 26 points from Kemba Walker and escaped Time Warner Cable Arena with a stunning 101-97 overtime victory over the Mavs.
Dallas dropped to 4-3 on the season and also lost both games on this modest two-game road trip. The Mavs lost the road trip opener in New York against the Knicks.
The Mavs open up a two-game home stand Monday against Minnesota, and it concludes Wednesday against Washington.
OJ Mayo led the Mavs with 22 points, Vince Carter had 19 and Darren Collison added 14.
The Mavs led 84-76 with 4:53 left in regulation, then had a complete brain-freeze and just kept making one bonehead play after another that helped the Bobcats even get the game to overtime.
The Bobcats outscored the Mavs in the paint, 52-24, and also beat the Mavs in fastbreak points, 25-21. Charlotte won the rebound battle, 53-43.
This was the first time in this series that the Bobcats scored at least 100 points against the Mavs.
