NEW YORK -- Dallas Mavericks forward Elton Brand was smiling from ear-to-ear when he walked onto the Madison Square Garden court for this morning's shootaround.
Brand's wife, Shahara, gave birth to a daughter, Mahala, who was born Wednesday here in New York. The daughter weighed seven pounds and eight ounces.
Brand missed Wednesday's game against Toronto to be by his wife's side for the birth. But he'll be back in uniform tonight at 6:30 when the Knicks (3-0) entertain the Mavs (4-1).
In four games -- all starts -- with the Mavs, Brand is averaging 5.8 points and is second on the team in rebounds with 6.3 per game. The two-time All-Star has played 26.5 minutes per game and is shooting 33.3 percent from the field.
