DALLAS -- Rick Carslisle wasted very little time Monday telling the media his impressions of Portland Trail Blazers rookie point guard Damian Lillard.
"He the early Rookie of the Year candidate,'' the Dallas Mavericks' coach said. "I think he’s going to have that much impact on their team.
"Plus, the point guard have the ball more, so it's going to feature him even more.''
The No.6 overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Weber State, Lillard is averaging 21.3 points, nine assists and four rebounds per game. He also has converted 24-of-51 baskets, including 6-of-16 three-pointers.
"I'm really impressed with his feel for the game,'' Carlisle said. "He's got an air of confidence about him.
"He does a real nice job of involving his teammates. I haven’t seen a point guard come in like this that can shoot from 25-, 26-feet easily in a long time.''
