CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sometimes Saturday morning, Rick Carlisle assembled his team for a little film session.
The Dallas Mavericks coach wanted to show his team some of those 20 turnovers they accumulated during Friday's 104-94 loss to the New York Knicks. And he wanted them to straighten out some of those things and protect the ball during Saturday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats.
Apparently, another film session is in order, because the Mavs turned the ball over 19 times and created numerous other critical mistakes that helped tip the game in Charlotte's favor. The Bobcats went on to stun the Mavs, 101-97 in overtime, leaving the Mavs with that deer-in-the-headlight look.
"We had an hour-long meeting this morning about the importance of hard play and stressing the need to have an energy level,'' Carlisle said. "We did some good things during the game and we got up 15 at one point early in the third quarter.
"But we had a couple of untimely turnovers that put the momentum back in their hands.''
