TORONTO -- Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey isn't exactly on the hot seat, but he's a bit close to the burner.
That prompted Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle to come to his defense.
"Casey is a great coach and he's a champion,'' Carlisle said after Friday morning's shoot around at the Air Canada Centre. "I'm sure they'll stay the course.
"They've got a young team and they're beat up with a lot of injuries.''
The Raptors (4-19) have lost 12 of their last 13 games, including their past six going into tonight's 6 o'clock game against the Mavs.
Casey was the defensive coordinator for the Mavs on Carlisle's staff when Dallas won the 2011 NBA title. He is in his second season as the Raptors' coach and need to string a few wins together so management can see some progress.
"This franchise is a lot healthier than it may appear from a won-loss record,'' Carlisle said. "They've got a great young coach and they've got one of the best GM's in the league (in Brian Colangelo).''
