BOSTON -- It was built as the game where Jason Terry would get some sort of revenge on his former team.
But Terry wasn't that much of a factor Wednesday night at TD Garden when his Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 117-115 in double overtime, to snap the Mavs' three-game winning streak.
The Mavs are now 11-11 on the season and will continue this three-game road trip Friday in Toronto before finishing it up Saturday in Minnesota.
Terry tallied 10 points and also finished with three assists. He was 3-of-10 from the field, including 1-of-6 from three-point range.
Rajon Rhondo scored on a driving layup to give the Celts a 110-107 lead with 35.5 ticks left in the second overtime. Darren Collison then missed a jumper, and Paul Pierce converted 1-of-2 free throws as Boston went up 111-107 with 19.3 seconds to go.
Vince Carter got the Mavs to within 111-110 when he drilled a three-pointer with 9.3 seconds remaining. But Paul Pierce hit a pair of free throws to pad Boston's lead to 113-110.
Darren Collison forced the game's first tie (92-all) when he snatched a defensive rebound and zipped coast-to-coast for a fastbreak layup with 2:21 remaining. Rajon Rhondo then fired in a jumper for the Celtics, and Derek Fisher gave the Mavs their first lead of the game at 95-94 when he fired in a three-pointer with 1:47 to go.
But that lead was short-lived as Paul Pierce came down the court and tossed in a jumper over Fisher to put the Celts ahead, 96-95 with 1:30 left in the game.
OJ Mayo led the Mavs with 24 points and six rebounds, Collison scored 20 and handed out six assists, Dahntay Jones finished with 12 points, Chris Kaman had 12 points and five rebounds, Fisher had 10 points before fouling out with 1:07 left in overtime. Also for the Mavs, Shawn Marion collected 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in his first game since missing two contests with a strained right groin muscle, and Carter had 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Pierce led the Celtics with 34 points and Kevin Garnett scored 16 points, and Rhondo had 16 points, nine rebounds and 15 assists.
