HOUSTON -- Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion said he will not play in tonight's game against the Houston Rockets.
Tipoff at the Toyota Center is at 7 p.m.
Marion strained his right groin muscle in the third quarter of Thursday's 97-94 victory over the Phoenix Suns. After Saturday's shootaround, Marion said no one should expect him to play so soon since the injury just occurred less than 48 hours ago.
"How many people you know pull a groin and be back in two days?,'' Marion asked. "This is one of the worst injuries in one of the worst areas.
"You can (mess) around and it'll be worst than what it is. And they don't want me to play around with it, either.''
While Marion sits out tonight's game, coach Rick Carlisle said there's a good chance center Chris Kaman will be able to play against the Rockets. Kaman sprained his left ankle against the Suns when he inadvertantly stepped on the foot of Phoenix center Marcin Gortat.
Marion's injury came when he tried to box out Suns forward Markieff Morris.
"I played most of the third quarter with it -- it was bothering me,'' Marion said. "It's still bothering me pretty bad.
"I don't know anybody who came back from a pulled groin and played in two days.''
