BOSTON -- When NBA free agency started at 12:01 a.m. on July 1, the first telephone call then-Dallas Mvericks guard Jason Terry received was from Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers.
Terry, though, was expecting that first call to come from the Mavs. Especially since he spent the previous eight seasons for the Mavs.
"Definitely disappointed, but again it’s free agency,'' Terry said. "It happens.
"They had their eyes set on Deron Williams. More power to them.''
The Mavs lost Terry to the Celtics, and Williams decided to sign a free agent contract with the Brooklyn Nets. Meanwhile, Terry and the Celtics will face the Mavs at 7 p.m. Wednesday at TD Garden.
"I ended up in a good place,'' Terry said. "That’s what I am blessed and happy about.''
