DALLAS – Rick Carlisle coached Stephen Jackson from 2004-’07 when they were both with the Indiana Pacers.
So Carlisle, now the coach of the Dallas Mavericks, knows a thing or two about the forward who now plays for the San Antonio Spurs.
“He’s an all-star caliber player -- he’s that good a basketball player,’’ Carlisle said after this morning’s shoot around at American Airlines Center. “He’s never been on the All Star team for whatever reasons, but he has that kind of impact on the game.
“He’s a really good all-around player, he hits big shots, he can post, he can drive, he can hit three’s, he can defend and rebound. He’s going to play multiple positions.’’
Carlisle will get an opportunity to reminiscence with Jackson tonight at 7 when the Mavs (18-24) host the Spurs (34-11) at American Airlines Center.
“He’s going to be playing power forward tonight because they’ve matched him up on Dirk (Nowitzki) historically a lot,’’ Carlisle said. “We’ll see a lot of different lineups tonight, but he’s terrific player.’’
