PORTLAND, Ore. -- Dallas Mavericks center Chris Kaman missed this morning's shoot around at the Rose Garden and may not play in tonight's game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
"He bumped his head in practice (Monday in Dallas) so he's being evaluated today,'' coach Rick Carlisle said after this morning's shoot around. "We'll have some more information tonight.''
The Mavs (19-25) face the Blazers (22-22) at 9 tonight to open up a four-game road trip.
Kaman has started the majority of the Mavs' game at center this season, but has been limited to 17 minutes or less in five of the last eight games. Kaman started the Jan. 20 game against Orlando, but Elton Brand got the starting nod at center last Friday against San Antonio, and rookie Bernard James started last Sunday against Phoenix.
This past summer the Mavs signed Kaman to a one-year, $8 million contract with the purpose of him being their starting center. But he's only averaging 12.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 23.7 minutes per game.
