DALLAS -- Point guard Mike James signed a second 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks today.
In five games since joining the Mavs, James scored eight points, dispended five assists and was 3-of-16 from the field in 42 minutes. All five of James’ assists came during Wednesday’s 105-100 victory over Houston, including four of them in the fourth quarter.
Also, coach Rick Carlisle has so much confidence in James' ability to run his team that he inserted him back into the game against Houston with 1:52 remaining at the score tied at 97-97.
"It's about making plays at the end of the game,'' James said Friday. "Obviously I was able to get stops at the end and it was coach’s decision.
"Wherever he plays me I’m going to be ready. It doesn’t matter if he puts me in or if he doesn’t.
But even if I don’t play and I get a DNP, for 48 minutes I’m eager to get in the game.''
When James' second 10-day contract expires, the Mavs must sign him for the rest of the season or release him, per NBA rules.
