SAN FRANCISCO -- As if the Dallas Mavericks weren't upset enough, the NBA admitted today that the officiating crew in Tuesday's game against Portland made a terrible mistake that likely cost the Mavs that game.
The NBA released a statement today saying Mavs guard OJ Mayo should have been going to the free throw line with 1.5 seconds left to shoot a pair of charity tosses with the game tied at 104-104. Instead, Mayo was flagged for charging into Blazers guard Ronnie Price.
After that call, LaMarcus Aldridge nailed an 18-footer at the buzzer which gave the Blazers a stunning 106-104 victory.
