DALLAS -- Josh Smith tallied 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 105-101, Monday night at American Airlines Center.
The Mavs (22-29) are now 2-1 on this five-game home stand which resumes Wednesday when they play their final game before the All-Star break against the Sacramento Kings.
Dirk Nowitzki hit a three-pointer to draw the Mavs within 103-101 of the Hawks with 6.4 seconds remaining. But Kyle Korver sealed it with a pair of free throws with 5.2 ticks to go.
The Mavs appeared on their way to taking a one-point lead when OJ Mayo stole the ball with 30 seconds left. But as Mayo was about to pull up for a layup, former Mavs guard Devin Harris hustled down the floor and stole the ball from Mayo from behind.
That started a downward trend for the Mavs, which included another turnover by Mayo on their next possession when he unsucessfully tried to pass the ball to Vince Carter.
Smith then hit two free throws with 22.2 seconds left to put the Hawks ahead, 101-98.
Nowitzki led the Mavs with 24 points, Mayo scored 19, Darren Collison finished with 14 points and 10 assists, Carter had 13 points and Shawn Marion collected 10 points.
