MINNEAPOLIS -- Getting a jump on some upcoming summer house cleaning, the Dallas Mavericks waived guard Dominique Jones on Saturday.
The move opens up a roster spot the Mavs could use to sign another player for the stretch run of the regular season, if they perfer to.
A first-round pick -- 25th overall -- of the 2010 NBA Draft out of South Florida, Jones never did find his niche with the Mavs. In 80 career games with the Mavs, Jones averaged 3.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 9.3 minutes per game.
The Mavs unsuccessfully tried to trade Jones last month by the Feb. 21 trading deadline. The 6-5, 215-pounder is slated to make $1.27 million this season and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
