DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks made it official Thursday when they signed point guard Gal Mekel to a three-year, $2.3 million contract.
A native of Israel, Mekel averaged 13.3 points and 5.4 assists and 1.4 steals, and also shot 52.5 percent from the field this past season while leading Maccabi Haifa to the Israeli League championship. Mekel (6-3, 191) also was the Most Valuable Player of the Israeli League.
"We feel like he’s a guy that’s a point guard with international experience,'' coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's won at a very high level in Israel.
"We just like his skills set as he mixes in with our veteran players. We're looking forward to having him with us.''
