According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks have been told that they are officially out of the running to acquire Los Angeles Lakers free agent center Dwight Howard.
Howard had narrowed his choices down to between the Mavs, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors. But with Dallas out of the running, the Mavs may now turn their attention to Philadelphia 76ers free agent center Andrew Bynum, Milwaukee Bucks guard Monta Ellis, Golden State Warriors point guard Jarrett Jack, or Toronto Raptors point guard Jose Calderon.
Losing out on Howard is a big blow to the Mavs, who had hoped to pair him with Dirk Nowitzki in an attempt to win another title or two before the 35-year old Nowitzki retires.
