As he continues his fight to assist children who are less fortunate, Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki has been appointed German Ambassador for UNICEF.
With the help of the German Committee for UNICEF, Nowitzki started a call to fight chronic malnutrition of children worldwide.
In a press release, Nowitzki, a native of Germany, said: “UNICEF helps us realize to what extent children need our support. However, UNICEF stands for solutions.
"Malnutrition is not an unexpected natural event. With simple and cost effective interventions UNICEF can save children’s lives and provide them with a healthy start in life.”
In conjunction with UNICEF, Nowitzki plans to advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable children worldwide.
“Dirk Nowitzki is a great asset for UNICEF,'' said Christian Schneider, the executive director of the German Committee for UNICEF. “His commitment is a message for countless young and old people: Join in and help make the world a better place for children.”
Back in 2001, Nowitzki founded the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation in the United States. His foundation has been active in Germany since 2005.
