INDIANAPOLIS -- When Rick Carlisle was an assistant coach and head coach of the Indiana Pacers, he played golf a couple of times with then Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.
Manning led the Colts to a Super Bowl and is a hero in this part of the country. So when Manning returns to Indianapolis on Sunday -- as the quarterback of the Denver Broncos -- Carlisle is certain he'll receive a warm ovation.
"I was an assistant coach with Larry Bird when he returned to the Boston Garden for his first appearance back at the Garden since he played there and that was a thunderous reception, and I don't expect anything less here,'' Carlisle said. "Peyton Manning comes back to Indianapolis?
"You’re talking about a guy that did everything the right way. He’s got such high integrity that he’ll get a standing ovation just on his integrity, let alone everything he did throwing the ball and hitting people for touchdowns and all that kind of stuff.''
