DALLAS -- In their first two preseason games, the Dallas Mavericks have had a split decision on the boards.
The Mavs won the rebounding battle in the preseason opener last Monday against the New Orleans Pelicans, 43-40. But they lost the rebounding battle in their second preseason game this past Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies, 51-45.
Coach Rick Carlisle said he's "OK'' with the way his club has rebounded in the opening two games. However, he wasn't completely satisfied with the overall effort.
"We can do better,'' Carlisle said. "There were times the other night (against the Grizzlies) when we could have had five guys scrambling a little better for defensive rebounds.
"But let’s face it, they didn’t have (Marc) Gasol out there. That guy gets a lot of balls a lot.''
Gasol, the NBA Defensive Player of the Year last season, didn't play in Wednesday's game against the Mavs because the team decided to rest him since he had a busy summer playing international basketball.
