“I feel amazing and I feel that I’m ahead of the schedule here in training camp than the rest of the guys,’’ said Crowder, who has dropped 15 pounds over the past two months. “I’m in a little better shape, and it’s all come together.’’
A rookie last season, Crowder went into summer league action slated to improve his perimeter game, defense and leadership skills. Those were the advice he received from coach Rick Carlisle and owner Mark Cuban.
“I didn’t shoot the ball well beyond the arc,’’ Crowder said after Wednesday's practice at American Airlines Center. “But I think my leadership and everything else they wanted me to do that we talked about with Cuban and Carlisle, I think I hit everything else like they wanted me to.
“I came in and I played a lot of minutes. And of course I think that’s what caused the injury on my ankle because I was coming from working out here and there, and then jumping in and playing 30 minutes a game in the summer league and I think I was a little fatigue, because we were playing those games in a row like that.’’
