DALLAS -- Jared Cunningham was barely in a Dallas Mavericks uniform last season long enough for the average fan to recognize him.
As a rookie last year for the Mavs, Cunningham spent a lot of time injured and never played more than eight minutes in a game. On Wednesday, the talented point guard returned to American Airlines Center as a member of the Atlanta Hawks and had his best game as an NBA player.
OK, it was only a preseason game. But for Cunningham that's major progress.
"It was good to get out there and go up and down the floor,'' Cunningham said after the Mavs' 98-88 victory over Atlanta. "The biggest thing is obviously I'm in the other locker room now.''
Cunningham wound up with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and only one turnover in 27 minutes. He said he played with "a little bit'' of a chip on his shoulders after he felt he didn't get a fair shake with the Mavs during his injury-riddled rookie season.
"I just tried to go out there tonight and help my team win,'' Cunningham said. "I tried to do things that coach wnated to see and knock down shots.''
