MEMPHIS -- In the first two preseason games for the Dallas Mavericks, Monta Ellis is distributing the ball just as well as he's scoring.
Ellis had 11 points and eight assists in Wednesday's 95-90 win over the Memphis Grizlies at the FedEx Forum. That came after he opened preseason play with 13 points and seven assists in Monday's 94-92 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.
On his ability to share the ball, Ellis said: "I'm just making the right play. A man is open, I've got two on me.
"I play the game of basketball.''
Coach Rick Carlisle has noticed how quickly Ellis has made the transition after the Mavs signed him to a three-year free agent contract over the summer.
"The adjustment for him is going to be that there's some nights we're not going to need him to score 20 unlike other teams that he's been with,'' Carlisle said. "And his play-making is just as important.''
