INDIANAPOLIS-- A day off did wonders for Shawn Marion.
After sitting out Monday's game against Orlando, Marion returned and poured in 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Dallas Mavericks eased to a 92-85 victory over the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Marion, 35, downplayed the fact that he had his best preseason game following a game where coach Rick Carlisle let him have the day off.
"It wasn't even so much as that,'' Marion said. "I think it's just my wind has been pretty good throughout preseason right now and training camp.
"I just wanted to be aggressive and just the team was looking for me more tonight. The ball was moving a lot more and the ball was finding me tonight.''
Marion made 9-of-18 shots and was very active while fiercelessly running the court and attacking the basket.
"We didn’t run one play for him and he made great things happen all night, created opportunities by running and doing things the right way,'' Carlisle said. "And defensively he was real solid and helped us rebound.
"You sit a guy like that out one game and you start to understand how meaningful he is to your team. So it was good to have him back out there.''
Forward Dirk Nowitzki certainly agreed with Carlisle.
"He's a little bit fresh and he was good, he was good around the basket,'' Nowitzki said of Marion. "He kept balls alive, he's one of the best slashers in this league.
"He always finds a little seam where he can get it in and get his little floater or runner off, and he was fantastic. He played with energy, he was all over the place and made some stuff happen for us.’’
