DALLAS -- Not only is Dirk Nowitzki one of the best basketball players in the world. The Dallas Mavericks' 11-time All-Star believes he's also a natural when it comes to making commercials.
The Mavs filmed a parody of the famous Geico commercial over the summer that was recently released, and Nowitzki showed off his "Hollywood'' side.
In the actual commercial, a camel strolls through an office asking folks what day is it, and finally gets an answer that it's Hump Day. In the parody, Nowitzki strolls through an office asking Mavs employees what day is it, and finally gets an answer that it's Game Day.
Nowitzki had fun after Tuesday's practice when he realized that the Mavs were about to open the regular season against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday -- on Hump Day, uh, Game Day.
"Obviously, for some reason I'm always the clown when they do this stuff,'' Nowitzki said while laughing. "But I like being goofy and I like having fun, and they asked me what my favorite commercial was at the time, and I said the camel -- it's hilarious.
"They came up with their own version of it. We didn't think it was going to get like two million views on YouTube, but obviosuly it went off and everybody loved it and had a good time. I had a good time filming it.''
Nowitzki noted that it took him just one take to do his part of the commercial.
"I was there for 15 minutes goofing off and the commercial was done,'' Nowitzki said. "I guess I'm talented that way.''
