DALLAS -– One thing the offseason acquisition of Monta Ellis did is give the Dallas Mavericks more options in their usage of Vince Carter.
That’s because Ellis has some of the same playmaking skills as Carter.
“With Monta as another playmaker it takes a little bit of that onus off of Vince, because Monta and Vince are going to be playing together at times and that’s going to help both of those guys,’’ coach Rick Carlisle said. “The important thing for Vince is that we’ve put him in a position to have a
balanced game, that he's going to have options.
"We’ve given him the ball, put him in pick-and-rolls that he's going to have scoring options and playmaking options so we don’t heap too much responsibility on him as a scorer.’’
The Mavs have often put the ball in Carter's hands in previous years during late-game situations. They can still do that, or hand that job over to Ellis.
