DALLAS -- Before the fourth quarter of Wednesday's nationally televised home game against the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle did his best impersonation of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.
While being interviewed on live TV by ESPN sideline reporter Chris Broussard between the third and fourth quarters, Carlisle gave two terse "yes'' answers to two questions by Broussard. It's a method Popovich has mastered and a method that often draws laughter around the NBA.
But it surprised a lot of folks when Carlisle went Popovich on Broussard.
"It was a passive/aggressive attempt to get Pop to send me another case of Rock and Hammer wine from his vineyard,'' Carlisle said Thursday while laughing. "It's one of the best wines that I‘ve ever had -- and I’m not a wine drinker.''
Carlisle then looked directly into a TV camera and said: "So Pop, if you’re watching, it’d be kind of nice.''
