DALLAS -- At his wit's end trying to decrease Monta Ellis' playing time, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle joked about recruiting Sarah Melton -- the team's director of public relations -- for some help.
Over the past seven games, Ellis has played 39, 37, 40, 37, 42, 40 and 39 minutes. While Carlisle knows Ellis can handle the high minutes, he's not trying to help his shooting guard win any iron man contests.
"Right now we’re looking for some help at the guard position to alleviate Ellis’ minutes,'' Carlisle said after Tuesday's practice at American Airlines Center. "So I'm open to anything.
"If Sarah can step in and play for seven minutes a half so we can play Ellis 34 (minutes) instead of 39, I’ll bring her a box of cupcakes.''
Ellis ranks seventh in the NBA in minutes played with 37.5 per game.
