DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle was only four years old when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
And the historian in him understands why a big deal will be made Friday when a huge event will take place in downtown Dallas to remember -- 50 years later -- arguably the darkest day in Dallas history and one of the darkest days in American history.
"I'm a historian of sorts,'' Carlisle said. "I'm a long-time follower of the mystique of that whole incident and have read a lot about it.
"So I understand the enthusiasm about it, I understand the importance of it. I''m privileged to be in this city when this event takes place.''
