DENVER -- Rick Carlisle got ejected from Saturday's game against Denver after he thought Nuggets guard Randy Foye got away with clobbering Dallas Mavericks guard Monta Ellis on a drive to the basket.
The incident occurred with 5:14 remaining in the second quarter and with the Mavs down, 49-33, in a game they eventually lost, 102-100, at the Pepsi Center. Foye was whistled for a foul on the play, but Carlisle thought he should have been assessed a flagrant foul since he landed on Ellis.
Referee Tony Brothers didn't take too kindly to what Carlisle was trying to tell him. So he slapped the Mavs' coach with a pair of quick technical fouls which led to his automatic ejection.
"I haven't really looked at it,'' Ellis said when asked about the foul in question. "I know coach was very mad about that.
"That's why we fought so hard to get back in the game. When he did that I think we got a spark and we started chipping away.''
