DENVER -- Dallas Mavericks center Samuel Dalembert wasn't himself during Saturday's 102-100 loss to the Denver Nuggets. But his coach, Rick Carlisle, just appreciates the effort he gave him.
Ever since Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard collided with him this past Wednesday, Dalembert has been nursing some sore ribs on the right side of his body. More physical contact Friday against Utah didn't help the soreness.
Thus, for the first time in his career, Dalembert wore a padded undergarment against the Nuggets to help protect his ribs.
The results weren't promising as Dalembert finished with just three points and three rebounds after entering the game with three straight double-digit rebounding contests.
"His ribs are banged up,'' Carlisle said. "They've been banged up since either Monday or Wednesday, I don't remember which game.
"He's playing hurt. A lot of guys wouldn't be out there right now, so the fact that he's out there means a lot.''
