DALLAS -- Jason Kidd's former teammates got a kicked out of the drink he intentionally spilled Wednesday night which delayed the game between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.
The NBA, however, didn't think it was funny and fined Kidd $50,000 for the display.
"He's a winner, he's smart,'' said Minnesota Timberwolves guard JJ Barea who was Kidd's backup during the Dallas Mavericks' 2011 championship season. "He's going to try everything to get his team an edge to win.
"I think he just got caught. It happens.''
Timberwolves forward Corey Brewer, also one of Kidd's teammates in Dallas during the championshp season, laughed when asked about the Nets' coach's transgressions.
"That was funny, man,'' Brewer said. "I guess you've got to do what you can do to get a win.
"It was kind of crazy.''
Mavs forward Shawn Marion thought Kidd had a good plan of attack. It's just that the NBA didn't care for the execution part of it.
"It was actually smart,'' Marion said. "It's clever.
"Too bad it didn’t work. That’s a big fine.''
