DALLAS -- Something happened to Gal Mekel on Wednesday against the Houston Rockets that never happened to him in his young NBA career.
For the first time since joining the Dallas Mavericks from Israel, Mekel didn't play in a game. That's after the rookie point guard played in every Mavs' summer legaue game, every preseason game, and the first 11 regular season games.
All those backup minutes behind Jose Calderon that usually automatically went to Mekel, they all went to rookie Shane Larkin against the Rockets. And Larkin -- in just his second game -- made great use of them as he finished with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 17 minutes.
