DALLAS -- For the second straight weekend while going into the front end of a back-to-back, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle eased up on his veterans and only put them through some nominal workouts during Friday's shootaround.
The Mavs (8-4) host the Utah Jazz (1-12) at 7:30 tonight, then play at Denver on Saturday night.
Last Friday in Miami, Carlisle didn't put his veterans through the intensed shootaround, but did work the younger players. Carlisle believe the results spoke the next day when the Mavs won in Orlando, therefore he plans to continue with this trend.
“They’re doing more weight lifting and body preparation type stuff,’’ Carlisle said. “We’re adjusting to our personnel situation and this is a trial run thing.
“We did this in Miami/Orlando and I thought it gave us some benefits, so we’re headed into a back-to-back and we’re doing it again. We’re constantly evaluating it and seeing if it’s going to be something that’s effective.’’
