DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks finally lost their first home game of the season Monday night.
Ty Lawson had 19 points and 11 assists to lead the Denver Nuggets to a 110-96 victory over the Mavs at American Airlines Center before a sellout crowd of 19,677. The Mavs are now 7-1 at home and 9-6 overall after losing to the Nuggets for the second time in three days.
Dallas will attempt to snap its two-game losing streak at home Wednesday against the Golden State Warriors.
Dirk Nowitzki passed Kevin Garnett late in the second quarter to become the No. 14th all-time leading scorer in NBA history. Nowitzki finished with 18 points, Monta Ellis scored 20, Jose Calderon tallied 12, and Shawn Marion had 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Other than Lawson, JJ Hickson collected 22 points for Denver, Nate Robinson scored 17, Wilson Chandler had 10, and Kenneth Faried finished with 10 points and 10 reobunds.
After the Mavs sliced a 15-point deficit to 89-85 with nine minutes left in the game, Robinson tallied 11 straight points for Denver, giving the Nuggets a 100-87 lead with 5:30 to go.
Behind 13 points from J.J. Hickson, the Nuggets led at the half 56-51. At that point, the Mavs had gotten 13 points apiece from Nowitzki and Ellis, and 10 from Calderon.
Dallas jumped out to a 21-11 lead,fueled by a pair of three-point baskets from Calderon. But the Nuggets came storming back and used a 25-6 run to take a 36-27 lead early in the second period.
The Nuggets would eventually lead by as much as 12 points, 50-38, late in the second quarter.
