MINNEAPOLIS -- The clock was winding down to a close Monday night at the Target Center, and Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion found himself isolated in the left corner on Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Kevin Love.
It was a strength against strength moment.
Love is the Timberwolves' best player and leading scorer, and Marion is the Mavs' best defender.
Chalk this one up to Marion, who blocked Love's 21-footer at the buzzer and the Mavs held on to defeat the Timberwolves, 100-98.
Afterwards, someone asked Marion about whether or not he fouled Love on that last play.
"It was not a foul,'' Marion said. "It was not a foul.''
Besides his defense, Marion poured in a season-high 32 points on 14-of-19 shooting. It's the most points Marion has ever scored for the Mavs and the most points he's had in a game since he tallied 34 points on Apr. 15, 2009 when he helped the Toronto Raptors win the final game of the 2008-'09 season in Chicago against the Bulls, 109-98.
In summing up Monday's victory over the Timberwolves, Marion said: "I'm all about winning games, man. Whatever it takes. That's what it boils down to.''
