DALLAS --The Dallas Mavericks are finally reaping the benefits from playing all those back-to-back games early in the season.
After playing six back-to-backs in November and another one at the start of this month, the Mavs are in the midst of playing just three games -- all at home -- in a seven-day span. That includes no games for three consecutive days from this past Sunday through Tuesday.
It's the Mavs' longest drought without a game so far this season, and they know they sure do need the extra time off.
"In November we really didn’t have time to practice and some nights I think it showed,'' forward Dirk Nowitzki said after Monday's practice. "It showed sometimes on defense where stuff wasn’t right, the rotations were a step slow. . .so sometimes we needed some good practice to get your competitive spirit up and correct some stuff.
"So this is a good week for us. I thought we had a good workout, a good sweat today, we'll have another one tomorrow and be sharp hopefully on Wednesday against a physical team that always gives us trouble on the boards, so we've got to be ready.''
The Mavs will host Memphis on Wednesday and Toronto on Friday before playing in Phoenix on Saturday.
