DALLAS -- As one of the leaders of the Dallas Mavericks, forward Dirk Nowitzki offered some sage advice for center Samuel Dalembert as he struggles to find his game.
"I think he’s got to stay ready, he’s got to keep working,'' Nowitzki said following Monday's practice at American Airlines Center. "You never know what’s going to happen in this league, guys can go down with injuries.
"When your number is called in this league you've got to be ready, you've got to mentally and physically be ready. So you’ve got to keep working, keep staying in shape, keep getting extra shots up, lift, and when your number is called you've got to be there to perform.''
Dalembert has performed so poorly lately that he didn't even play in Saturday's 106-93 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. In the five games prior to that, Dalembert had just 11 points and 25 rebounds and made only 3-of-16 field goals.
But Nowitzki is convinced Dalembert will turn things around, become a factor again for the Mavs and rebound from his recent poor performances.
"He’s been around for a long time,'' Nowitzki said. "I’m sure he’s going to be professional about it, and when his number is called he’s got to be ready.''
