HOUSTON -- Dirk Nowitzki moved up the NBA's all-time scoring ladder Monday night while leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 111-104 victory over the Houston Rockest at the Toyota Center.
With the victory the Mavs snapped a two-game losing streak and go into the short Christmas break with a 16-12 record. Houston, meanwhile, dropped to 18-11.
Nowitzki scored 31 points and passed Alex English to move into 13th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Also for Dallas, Monta Ellis scored 18, Vince Carter popped in 16, Jose Calderon tallied 15 and Jae Crowder scored 11.
Dwight Howard led the Rockets with 29 points and 15 rebounds, Chandler tallied 21, Jeremy Lin finished with 19 and Aaron Brooks had 18.
