DALLAS – San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has admired the way Dirk Nowitzki has revolutionalized the three-point shot, as far as power forwards are concerned.
Of all the players in NBA history, the Dallas Mavericks’ 11-time All-Star has made more three-pointers (1,380) than any other power forward. The amazing feat has really impressed Popovich.
“I think Dirk basically, in modern times so to speak, has really personified that stretch four (power forward position) because he’s scored from everywhere on the court and for distance,’’ Popovich said Thursday. “Especially at the beginning, that was his signature, he shot a lot of threes in the very beginning.
“So I think he pretty much personified the stretch four at that time and he hasn’t slowed down much. If at all.’’
