DALLAS -- Danny Green came off the bench to fire in 22 points, including a huge three-pointer late in the game, to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 116-107 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night at American Airlines Center.
It was the Mavs' fifth loss in their last eight games and their second straight loss at home after they opened the season 11-2 at the AAC. The Mavs (16-13) will now hit the road for a three-game trip starting Saturday in Chicago and continuing with games against Minnesota on Monday and against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 25 points, Monta Ellis scored 23, Vince Carter had 20, DeJuan Blair collected 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Jose Calderon wound up with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Other than Green, the Spurs got 23 points from Tony Parker, 21 points and 13 rebounds from Tim Duncan, 12 points from Tiago Splitter and 10 points from Boris Diaw.
The Southwest Division-leading Spurs improved to 23-7, including 7-7 against team with an above .500 record.
The Spurs led 100-85 with 5:42 following a jumper by Parker and appeared on their way to putting this one away. But the Mavs went on a 12-0 run to get within 100-97 following a three-point play by Monta Ellis with 4:12 left.
From there the two I-35 rivals basically traded baskets until Green drilled a three-pointer to put the Spurs ahead 109-103. The Mavs, however, didn't go away quietly.
A basket by Samuel Dalembert off a feed from Monta Ellis drew the Mavs within 110-107 of the Spurs with 50 seconds left. But Manu Ginobili hit a pair of free throws by push the Spurs' lead to 112-107 with 34.2 ticks left.
Ellis then drove and missed, and Parker's two charity tosses with 26.1 seconds to go increased San Antonio's lead to 114-107.
San Antonio led most of the way, including 58-51 at intermission. Dallas got within 62-60 early in the third quarter.
But the Spurs went on a 9-0 run to go up 71-62 with 7:44 remaining in the third period.
