DALLAS -- Shawn Marion will be the starting power forward and Jae Crowder the starting small forward when the Dallas Mavericks host the Milwaukee Bucks tonight at 7:30 at American Airlines Center.
The lineup got changed because the Mavs will be without Dirk Nowitzki, the team's long-time starter at power forward. Marion normally starts at small power, but also has been successful in the NBA as a power forward.
Either way, it'll be challenging for the Mavs as they try to beat the Bucks without Nowitzki, who is the team's all-time leading scorer. But the Mavs do get sort of a bump in talent as center/power forward Brandan Wright will make his season debut tonight after he was sidelined since Oct. 8 with a small non-displaced fracture of his left shoulder.
"Everybody's got to step up in different areas,'' assistant coach Monte Mathis said. "Nobody can go out of their game that they do well.
"People got to their same thing that they do well. But it's great timing to get Brandan back at the time that Dirk gets sick, so he's going to have to step up and everybody's got to come together as a unit and somehow come up with those 20-plus points and those rebounds.''
Mathis, by the way, will be calling the shots from the sidelines in place of coach Rick Carlisle, who also is out with an illness.
