DALLAS -- Life without Shawn Marion will start Wednesday in San Antonio for the Dallas Mavericks.
Marion will miss the game against the Spurs and possibly Friday's game in New Orleans after suffering a right shoulder contusion during Tuesday's 110-97 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
"Trix going out is tough -- he's been playing well as of late,'' forward Dirk Nowitzki said of Marion. "He's a very good defender for us, so that's going to hurt us a little bit.
"He probably could have spent some time on (Spurs point guard Tony) Parker tomorrow. We're definitely going to miss him, but it is what it is.''
Marion went crashing to the floor with 1:34 remaining before halftime after crashing into Nowitzki. X-rays taken on Marion's shoulder were negative, but now the Mavs have to make due without their best overall defender.
"I think whoever is going to step in is going to give us some good minutes,'' Nowitzki said. "I think Jae (Crowder) is a very good defender for us, so whoever it's going to be, you can't really replace his game.
"We all know he's got a unique game, especially on the offensive end. He's kind of always around the ball, around the rim, he makes great plays for us, so we've got to try somehow.''
