PHOENIX -- So far this season, Donnie Nelson has been encouraged by what he has seen from the new-look Dallas Mavericks.
Thus, the Mavs' president of basketball operations doesn't forsee any changes made to this roster as the Feb. 20 trade deadline approaches.
"You never say never, but we do like the team,'' Nelson told the Star-Telegram. "With nine
new faces we’re not looking for reasons to change.
"But that being said, if an opportunity presents itself that can take us over the top we certainly have to look at it.''
Translation: If someone wants to trade a top-notch superstar to Dallas -- without the Mavs having to rid themselves of their core group -- that's a deal Nelson will do in a heartbeat. Still, since the Mavs (23-17) added nine new players last offseason, Nelson would like to give them a chance to collectively prove their worth.
"We feel like we’re versatile and fairly deep at every position,'' Nelson said. "But are we a perfect roster, absolutely not.
"But we do feel like the more time that this team share on the court together, the more experience that they have together, the more success we’ll have. Hopefully that’ll turn into a nice long postseason as well.''
