PHOENIX -- The Dallas Mavericks will supply more information later today on the status of point guard Gal Mekel.
Mekel suffered some soreness in his right knee during this past Monday's game against Orlando and did not play Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers and won't play in tonight's game in Phoenix. The rookie from Israel flew back to Dallas on Thursday to get examined by Mavs physician Dr. T. O. Souryal.
Coach Rick Carlisle said: "We'll have more information tonight on Gal.''
With no Mekel, rookie Shane Larkin is the only healthy backup to starting point guard Jose Calderon, although shooting guard Monta Ellis can also adequately run the team's offense. However, veteran Devin Harris (foot surgery) is very close to making his 2013-'14 debut.
"We're thinner with one less guy available,'' Carlisle said after this morning's shootaround at the US Airways Center. "We're a man down, but Shane's going to have to carry the load until Devin's available -- whenever that is.''
