PHOENIX -- Dallas Mavericks rookie point guard Gal Mekel underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee earlier Friday.
There is no timetable set for Mekel's return, according to the Mavs.
Mekel started experiencing soreness in his knee during Monday's home game against Orlando. Then he sat out Wednesday's game in Los Angeles against the Clippers, and an examination revealed that Mekel has a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee.
With Mekel out, rookie Shane Larkin will be the primary backup to starting point guard Jose Calderon. However, veteran Devin Harris is very close to making his debut this season after he had foot surgery in August.
