DALLAS --Don Nelson is leaning toward the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers squaring off in this year's NBA Finals.
"I love the way the Pacers are playing,'' said Nelson, who was the coach and general manager of the Dallas Mavericks from 1997-2005. "I think they’ve got a real shot.
"Of course coming out of the East is a little easier than coming out of the West.''
Nelson also gave kudos to the Clippers, who hired long-time Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers last summer.
"The Clippers got a shot if they get the team playing the right way for Doc,'' Nelson said. "I think the Clippers got as good a chance as anybody.
"Of course I’m a big Oklahoma City fan. I love the way those guys play.''
Nelson also has an affinity for the San Antonio Spurs, who are coached by Gregg Popovich -- a former assistant under Nelson when the two were with the Golden State Warriors.
"My favorite team, of course, is the San Antonio Spurs, with Pop coaching them,'' Nelson said. "But I'm not so sure they can get it done this year, but they’re having a special year again.''
