CHARLOTTE -- Coach Rick Carlisle believes the Charlotte Bobcats are going to put his Dallas Mavericks through the torture chambers tonight when the two teams collide at 6 at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
"Charlotte is a physical, hard-playing playoff style team and it's going to be a grind,'' Carlisle said after Tuesday morning's shootaround. "Not just a physical grind, but a mental grind, and we've got to be up to it.''
Back on Dec. 3 when the Mavs hosted the Bobcats, Dallas exerted a lot of energy just to get an 89-82 victory over Charlotte made possible because the Mavs outscored the Bobcats in the fourth quarter 29-15. Couple that game with the fact that the Bobcats just upended the high-scoring Golden State Warriors, 91-75, on the road last Tuesday, and Carlisle knows his team is in for a tussle tonight.
"We had to grind our ass off to beat these guys last time,'' Carlisle said. "We were down most of the game.''
With the Mavs set to play the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, Carlisle doesn't subscribe to the theory that tonight's contest against the Bobcats is a trap game.
"These guys held Golden State to 75 last week,'' Carlisle said. "This ain’t a trap game.
"This is a good team. They were really close to beating San Antonio (three) nights ago (losing 104-100).''
