NEW YORK -- Now that they've gotten a couple of W's on the first two legs of this three-game road trip, the Dallas Mavericks are thinking sweep.
The Mavs play the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden at 6:30 Monday night after they took care of Philadelphia and Detroit in the first two games of this road trip. But the Mavs are trying to be coy about what a sweep of this trip would mean to them going forward.
"It’s just the next team on our list,'' forward Vince Carter said. "I think this road trip is very important to us.
"We got the hardest part of it out the way – we won the first one – and I think that gave us confidence moving into here regardless of the 20-plus turnovers (in the win over Philadelphia). We’re on a two-game winning streak on trip, so why not close it out.''
Forward Shawn Marion cautioned that the Knicks will be a tough nut for the Mavs to crack. Particularly since they defeated the Mavs in Dallas 92-80 on Jan. 5.
"(A sweep) can be a good feeling, but they’ve been playing a lot better than they did before and they beat us at home,'' Marion said. "So we know what kind of team they’re capable of being.
"But we've got to go out there and make it hard for them.''
