CHARLOTTE, N. C. -- In a roundabout way, Dirk Nowitzki said that five-game winning streak the Dallas Mavericks recently put together was fool's gold.
In the streak, the Mavs beat Sacramento (107-103), Cleveland (124-107), Memphis (110-96), Utah (103-81) and Boston (102-91). The only team among that quintet with a winning record is Memphis.
"We only beat Memphis with a winning record, and everybody else are teams we should have beaten,'' Nowitzki said. "So I don't think that five in a row was anything great or anything special, but we did what we were supposed to do in those games.
"We played a little better defensively and reobnded better in those wins. But today was definitely a step back.''
The Mavs had their five-game winning streak broken Tuesday by the Charlotte Bobcats, 114-89.
