NEW YORK -- Other than playing in American Airlines Center, Dirk Nowitzki's favorite NBA arena to play in is New York's Madison Square Garden.
"It to me, behind the AAC, is probably the best arena to play in just because of the history,'' the Dallas Mavericks' 12-time All-Star said. "I was really sad I missed the game last year there with my knee injury.
"That was a tough one to watch. So I’m glad I’m healthy again and hopefully will have a good game.''
The Mavs (34-23) will face the Knicks (21-35) at 6:30 Monday at the Garden.
Nowitzki has treated Madison Square Garden as if its his own private playpen. In 13 career games at the Garden, Nowitzki is averaging 27.2 points per game, which is his highest average in any NBA arena during his 16-year career.
"It’s a fun arena,'' Nowitzki said. "The whole stands are dark. . .it’s a fun atmosphere.
"Obviously the New York fans know basketball and they appreciate good basketball. It’s a fun place to play.''
